Thirty Years Ago Today, Paul Harding had one of his best performances in St Kilda colours at Princes Park against Fitzroy. He would give the Lions John Ironmonger a bath in the ruck and would also collect 26-possessions.
Having arrived at Moorabbin via Hawthorn for greater opportunities a season earlier, he would add his name to the list of big men to wear the number 10 jumper at St Kilda. He would spend three seasons Bayside and play 62-games including the club’s breakthrough finals appearance in 1991. The big Western Australian would be traded to the West Coast Eagles at the end of the season in exchange for pick number 12 in the National Draft.
It would prove a timely move for the ruckman, who would play in the Eagles premiership team in 1992. The exchange wasn’t as fortuitous for the Saints who selected Rob Malone who played 0 games for the club rather than Shane Crawford who was selected by the Hawks with the very next pick.
