The Saints most complete performance of the season to date came against the Tigers at RSEA Park. On a history-making afternoon for the competition the game, played without fans at the ground in response to the developing Corona Virus, saw the visitors kick the lowest score in the history of AFLW. Not surprising then that there were a number of players worthy of nominating for All Star of the week which made keeping it to four an incredibly difficult task.
Caitlin Greiser was a dominant presence up forward, when she wasn’t outmarking her opponents she was bringing the ball to ground to the benefit of her team mates. By the end of the afternoon her three goals would see her take the lead in the competition’s goal kicking award. Rosie Dillon continued her hard-working ball-winning ways, once again topping the team’s possession and tackle counts.
Clara Fitzpatrick again mounted the case that she is the best Irishwoman in AFLW with a commanding performance across the halfback line. Whenever Richmond looked likely to mount a challenge the 29-year-old seemed to be in a position to intercept or break up the attacking charge. Georgia Patrikios has had a tremendous first season and must be a big chance, along with teammate Greiser, to take out the Rising Star Award in 2020. Her class was again on full show on this afternoon as stepped her way through traffic effortlessly on her way to 14 touches.
